I have been thinking of cooking a Japanese meal and was wondering where I can find the ingredients? I don't know if HEB sells plain tofu and a few other things...

Thanks in advance, Richard Gomez

Your best place for Japanese grocery is:

Minnano Japanese Grocery
7460 Callaghan Rd # 310
(210) 340-7900

I love going to this place.

The dish I plan is more Chinese than Japanese but uses the same ingredients. I believe its called Mapo Tofu.

Seoul Asian Market is my favorite in town. Authentic. A real Asian grocery store. At Harry Wurzbach and Rittiman, across from Ft Sam

Tim's Oriental Market on Bandera and near Huebner. Take your nose plugs, it smells authentic in there, but they have a huge assortment of items.

I can't speak for Seoul Asian Market as I have never been there but heard it is catered towards the Korean market.

Sari-Sari (near bandera and 410) is pretty decent. Filipino food can be found there and used to go there when they used to sell ensaymada. They stopped selling ensaymada for some reason.

I only go to Tim's when I am looking for Lychee, otherwise I won't go. It isn't that great IMHO.

Thanks for the help I went to the Minnanno Japanese place and loved it. The staff was very nice and right when I entered the store came to me asking if they could be of assistance. Will go there again in the future

On the cooking side, my dish did not turn out to well. Added to much spice I think and the tofo did not absorbed the flavor. Also now my right eye is twitchy do to spicy of the dish
