I am tired of literally feeling the racial tension everywhere around here. It's just awful. One can just feel the tension in the air, everywhere you go. I don't know how San Antonio is, but I would like input on that. I know SA is mostly Hispanic and White...is there a lot of racial tension in SA? Are different cultures more accepting of one another?

Thanks!
There are so many circles in San Antonio that with enough time and patience you will find the right one. It would be helpful if you described your interests, what causes you donate your time to, and what other qualities you desire from others for social reasons. Not necesarily describe them to us either but to yourself in your own mind.

It is likely you won't be invited to many events at The Argyle or the San Antonio Country Club as old money is quite exclusive. It is also unlikely you will end up moving next door to a suburban family regardless of their willing inclusivity and hopeful politeness toward neighbors.

It is more doubtful you would even find those from the new money circles you seek and desire posting here on this forum, at least not in any numbers, as you can tell by the unsympathetic responses thus far, and also because many of the events they attend are rarely discussed here. Try checking out the social section of Scene in S.A. perhaps?

Good luck in your search for an ideal social circle!

I don't think any of the posts were unsympathetic. I believe that most of us have more pressing issues to worry about than wealth and social status.

I honestly don't think the OP has anything to worry about should they decide to make the trek down here. Period.

It depends on which minority group you belong to and how much diversity you're looking for. There's not much racial tension here, but an upper-class social group in San Antonio will be primarily Caucasian and Hispanic of Mexican descent. About half of the Hispanics here self-identify as white even though people have been allowed to check more than one race since 2000. If you look at the ethnic makeup of San Antonio through the years, it is trending to be less diverse. The Hispanic portion of the population is increasing along with a small increase in the "other" population while the black and white portions are decreasing. You'll still find diversity though on the far northeast side, parts of the northwest side, and the far west side. Council District 2 on the East side is by far the most diverse, but only 9.3% of the population there has a bachelor's degree and most of the people make less than $40,000 a year. Council Districts 8, 9, and 10 are the wealthiest and most educated; but they happen to be the only districts with a majority white population.

Here is all the demographic information you need.

Here is a council district map; municipalities like Alamo Heights and Kirby are not included.

Having lived in San Antonio for 30+ years I haven't seen very much racial tension not that It doesn't exist in some areas but not enough to where it makes headline news. San Antonio is laid back and for the most part people just go there own way and not look for trouble such as creating racial roadblocks. I have been to other cities as well and have seen and felt that I am out of place in such cities as Miami, Denver, New Orleans and yes Dallas. When I come back then I am more at ease, it's not perfect but its home.

I think you'll be in for a rough time. I'll send you a DM regarding San Antonio. Yes, unfortunately lived there for the better part of 3 years.
Felt like a big fish...in a very small pond.

I don’t think your typical upper class person would be posting here. Sorry to tell you but I think you are asking the question in the wrong place.

Moderator cut: orphaned

It is kind of annoying but if you look at it a different way, I think some of us would feel just like firstclassflyer if we moved to a small town like Victoria, San Angelo, Abilene, etc. and entered their social circles, old money or otherwise.

And constantly jumped on their message boards to tell folks how horrible their town is? People are welcome to not like SA. They really are. But we're also welcome to call them out on it, when they feel the need to talk down about a place so many love. Moderator cut: off topic/personal

Well hopefully not. I'm not defending people that make it their life's goal to tell everyone how miserable they are in a place, just making a comment on how some of us might feel the same way if we moved to another city.

Never. Humans love to differentiate themselves from others (with of course themselves being in the superior group). That will never, ever totally disappear.
