We are interested in relocating to the area and in particular would like to be within about 45mins-1 hour of a military base (we will be retiring but would still like to be able to do at least a once a month commissary run!!). We have young children so are looking for the very best schools possible - right now they are in private schools so we would spend more on a home to equal out private tuition if necessary or would keep them in a private school if needed.

We are looking at around $350K or maybe a bit more for housing, and of course, want great schools, low crime, etc! Like everyone else we are looking for it all - I know it is hard to find everything but any suggestions anyone has to help in the right direction would be really appreciated, master planned communities are great. We would love to be close to a larger city but live in an suburban area with a small town feel.

I am not sure what other info would be helpful, but like I said anything that could help us would be great!

We made the move to New Braunfels 6 years ago (maternal side of the family were among the original settlers) after having lived in SA all my life. Haven't looked back or regretted it in the least!

Everyone says New Braunfels is great - but we don't know anyone who has lived in that area in quite some time. Is there one school district that stands out above the rest?

From everything I've seen, you'll like any of the local schools. Then again, our family has lived here for over 150 years, so....

The one negative that I see in New Braunfels is that is a touristy town/city. Lots of college kids go there to go "tubing". But TexasRedneck could tell you much more about that than me.

Ah yes....the tourist season CAN make things crowded around the river area - but we generally avoid that area anyway - unless it's to make a bikini review...

Ha! We don't really mind if there is a tourist season - being in the Navy we have always been in beachy type areas - we just don't really go when it is packed. Is it everywhere though or just if you go to the river areas - like here, there is clearly the touristy areas, but then the regular town too if that makes sense? Also, don't mind it getting busy but does that bring any unrealistic crime with it?

Oh man, used to love to check out the bikini action at Rockin' R section of the river. Great place to launch!
