I can see someone causing an accident turning left on red at that intersection. Everybody does not understand the laws of driving. Be safe and just wait for the green. Another 30 seconds is not going to slow you down.

I would not turn either way because there is no rush, it is not part of the culture, and if you did get cited for it there would be no use in attempting to argue with the officer about it since most do not know every law in the book and having to go to a judge to explain would be a huge waste of time even if you would be vindicated.

I also refuse to carry around laws in my car just in case one day I have to show an officer lol

Great just what I thought. I wouldn't do it personally but was just one of those questions I wanted to know the answer on.

In the absence of a stop line, the operator shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection. A vehicle that is not turning shall remain standing until an indication to proceed is shown. After stopping, standing until the intersection may be entered safely, and yielding right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully in an adjacent crosswalk and other traffic lawfully using the intersection, the operator may:
(1)turn right; or
(2)turn left, if the intersecting streets are both one-way streets and a left turn is permissible.

its confusing but after decoding 300 of the FMCSR's I would like to take a crack at it.

(2) means if both streets are one way. possible scenario: You are on street A which goes one way northbound and want to turn on street B which is one way eastbound. Ideally a right turn would place you going in the wrong direction, so you would have to make a left turn (as long as a red light turn is legal). Hopefully this will clarify a bit, now I DEMAND REP POINTS LOL JK

Edit: Although I do see your point! as that intersection is a classic example. maybe more research will be needed. Hopefully TXhwyman or M2 will post a vehicle code soon. but honestly I do it, and people behind me give me a wtf stare LOL

Then you'll have to just keep honking, because HE*L no, I'm not making a left turn on red at the intersection of 410 and 151. That's just dangerous IMHO. You can't always gauge speed of oncoming traffic coming from the left to make a good enough judgement to go. Further, I have NEVER seen anyone make a left onto a left at a freeway intersection at ANY TIME.

Just 'cause it's legal doesn't make it safe, and it also doesn't mean I have to do it. Keep that in mind.

Yep.

There wont be any traffic coming from the left. I assume you mean from the right. I also assume you mean you have never seen anyone at any time make a left onto the freeway -on a red light- since coming from Sea World to 410 is a left turn from 151 to 410N.

Personally I treat those like a stop sign. If the traffic is clear I make the turn. If not I wait until it is safe. It is really no different than turning right off that little street behind the old WalMart (some furniture store now or something) onto 151.

Just my $.02

My bad, and yes, thank you, I meant coming from the right (I originally wanted to post the direction but can't figure it out at that bend LOL).

But no, I meant what I said when I said I have never seen anyone that is at a major freeway interchange-- in a designated left turn lane--and sitting at a red light to turn onto a frontage road--make a left at that red light. I'm not saying it's never happened, I'm just saying I have never seen it in my entire life.

Jeez, it's in the Texas Transportation Code...

Quote:
§544.007. TRAFFIC-CONTROL SIGNALS IN GENERAL. (a) A traffic-control signal displaying different colored lights or colored lighted arrows successively or in combination may display only green, yellow, or red and applies to operators of vehicles as provided by this section.
(b) An operator of a vehicle facing a circular green signal may proceed straight or turn right or left unless a sign prohibits the turn. The operator shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicles and to pedestrians lawfully in the intersection or an adjacent crosswalk when the signal is exhibited.
(c) An operator of a vehicle facing a green arrow signal, displayed alone or with another signal, may cautiously enter the intersection to move in the direction permitted by the arrow or other indication shown simultaneously. The operator shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian lawfully in an adjacent crosswalk and other traffic lawfully using the intersection.
(d) An operator of a vehicle facing only a steady red signal shall stop at a clearly marked stop line.
(1) turn right; or
(2) turn left, if the intersecting streets are both one-way streets and a left turn is permissible.
So it's completely legal and I do it at the 151/410 interchange all the time!

Cheers! M2
