I live in the far north area of San Antonio. Stone Oak/Canyon Springs area. I do love the area because my girlfriends and I have a ton of new very nice places to go to Happy Hour. Within the 1604/Blanco and I-10/1604 (Rim shopping center) area we have lots of places for entertainment. If you are looking to be in an area that offers fun and entertainment and a lot of great people I would consider this area.

Thanks Penquin, for the insight. Yes, arts & entertainment are things I want in my new locale. I'll check out Stone Oak & Canyon Springs (yeah, I'll have to find it on the map first
).
As long as it's at least 50 degrees, I'll ride (though I've been out when it;s in the 40s, it can be done - but oof, it gets cold!), so I'm thinking I won't have to wait until summer.

*ANOTHER, DIFFERENT QUESTION* Do any of you have a pug-type dog & can you tell me how they fare in the summertime as the breed tends to overheat very easily (since the poor dears have no snout for an air conditioner)?

I've got a 110-lb Boxer - he does fine. You'll likely need to spend some extra effort acclimating your dog, but I know several w/pugs that do fine.

Heat and humidity are a problem in the Hill Country. However, the vast majority of places have air-conditioning (all except the very old, run-down places have central air, and if not, they probably have window units.)
New Braunfels is a fantastic place for the arts, and it is also VERY family oriented. (something neat goes on 'bout every weekend).
Austin isn't too very far...and has wonderful music and places to eat.
It all depends on how far you want to drive, and how close you want to be to your dad...
Deer are a problem, both in-town and out. The bucks and does can get pretty agressive, too. If you drive at night between towns, be very careful. I dont know if you can get them for cycles, but you can get deer alarms for auto bumpers - they make a noise that the deer hear far enough ahead of you that the deer hear and can get out of your way, usually.
And another problem; even though it doesn't get as cold here during the winter as you are used to, we do have winters. When it does ice over (and that is normally what happens - ice instead of snow) - there are LOTS of accidents because no one knows how to drive but they do anyway. And even as far south as Corpus Christ and Galveston, it does freeze at least once every year or so.

Sorry....but they don't work. Period. Many exhaustive studies done by various state agencies across the country have shown that the only thing these "deer whistles" get out of your way is your money - from your wallet to the snake oil folks that sell 'em.
We ride a touring bike - since '96, I've got over 200k miles on two wheels (before that, with 4 kids running around I was doin' good to even have a bike, much less one w/a working odometer!
) I'm a member on a number of m/c boards across the country, and this discussion has come up for years. There's a LOT of studies published on the net from
reputable research studies that reveal that there's simply nothing to the claims of effectiveness - not even from the electronic powered units. So, save your money and invest in a lower deductible!
