When I move to the SA area, I was originally planning on looking for jobs near the northwest part of town (after all of your wonderful recommendations!). I wanted to be in a good area with good jobs, and as near as possible to my boyfriend, who lives in Kerrville. Well, things might be different by the time I get out there, and I might be calling him husband instead! So of course, I wouldn't want to work over an hour away if I'm living in Kerrville.

I've tentatively started keeping my eyes open for jobs, but being a small town, there doesn't seem to be much advertised. My BF says it's basically all who you know in that town. And since I don't really know anybody but him, that leads me to think I'll be in a heap of trouble!

Do you think it'll be really difficult to get my foot in the door at a decent administrative type job without being from there and knowing everyone and their brother-in-law? Any tips on the job hunt?

PS: I really do love this forum...I've learned so much!

Look at this....Towards the bottom, you'll see the major employers. Of course, there are other jobs possibly with the city, county, smaller companies, private schools, churches, etc.

There have been other threads both here and in the Texas forum about how difficult it can be to get a job in Kerrville. If I were you, I wouldn't consider that to be discouraging, just consider it a measure of how much effort you'll have to expend to find something.

What jobs (non-minimum wage paying) aren't all about who you know? My three non-miiltary jobs here involved knowing someone that knew someone. Same goes for the two opportunities I'm currently looking at. Never applied to either of them; it was all about who I know and who knows me.

coming from the corporate world, it's a sad reality that it's not what you know, but who you know. it's all about the networking.

James Avery is based in Kerrville...and is highly regarded by many of its employees. There is an 'employment opportunities' section on their web site.

Cheers! M2
