Husband and 3 friends are wanting to go camping this Sat night... however they're running into burn bans!!! Who wants to go camping without a campfire???

Any suggestions? They're wanting to "rough" it... tents, fire (can be in a fire pit, that would be fine)... all things manly!! They would like to stay within 1-1 1/2 hrs of SA... and river and or lake would be great but not necessary... only thing that is a MUST is a campfire!

Thanks!

Ask about one of the fire bowls ( target, acadmey...) we have used one of those for years and have been allowed to have fires sometimes during the bans because it has the mesh lid and the fire doesn't actually touch the ground. Make sure you clear around the bowl.

It's worth a phone call.

Good luck and have fun!!

Call the Guadelupe Canue Livery. It's at 281 where the Guadelupe crosses.

I guess I've camped in too many fire prone areas of the west, that a campfire always seemed too risky, so never seemed a requirement. It's not the end of the world. They can still sit around and drink beer by moonlight.

I think they've decided on Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera... any thoughts?

TPWD: Hill Country State Natural Area

My husband has been there once before, but there was a burn ban and it wasn't that great for him. However, no burn ban right now!

I don't know how bad they want a creek or swimming/fishing hole but it is probably pretty dry right now. You may want to call and check on that.

Lots of fun happenings as far as night life goes in Bandera , every other business is a bar . I don't know if they plan on staying at camp all weekend or going into "town", just remind them of Bandera's motto "come to Bandera on vacation, leave on probation" .

It's a fun town, I hope they enjoy their visit. There is some sort of KnockOut run for bikers in Bandera this weekend, don't know if that is their thing or not.
