And most of them posted here before they moved. We have a slew of liberal lesbian PhD's now living in our urban areas, and several mixed-race couples and young married-with-2.6-kids and 3 large dogs living in apartment complexes on the NW side.

That news report is very misleading in the amount of "growth" over the past decade. The number they use in 2000 is strictly the amount of people in the city limits of San Antonio. The number for 2010 is either a reporting error, confusing 1.4 million with 2.4 million, or the 2.4 million figure is correct, but is actually for the entire metro region. No way are there 2.4 million in San Antonio city proper.

The comparison does sound off. I'll wait for the official numbers to come out.

I wonder where that ranks us now compared to the rest of the nation?

I was wondering the same thing,
there's no way in h.... that any city can handle a 120% growth in 10 years without having complete chaos.

I'd believe 1.4 million (27% growth)

I arrived here in June 2001 and can believe the higher number if you're including all of the San Antonio area outside 1604, especially the 78253 zip code. Almost everything out there did not exist back in 2001. I can still remember the little tiny light at Culebra/1604 where I'd ask what's up with all the traffic if there were more than 5 cars there.. yeah, imagine that now. I also remember driving down Potranco to Albertsons and going forever before you even saw another car or driving the access road for what was one day going to become 151. I'm sure most people out here can't even imagine there not being a 151.

I forgot about some of those. I mostly remember the anguished mothers of elementary schoolers moving to the attendance areas of (formerly) capped schools in Stone Oak.
