Isn't that the place many people come on here seeking to escape? Or they're considering taking a position there and a lot of people post about how bad it is to work in their IT department, especially with the pink slip pruning of the higher up branches..

I've got a lot of friends there and don't know of anyone unhappy. Most love it. I know that right now they're feeling pretty overworked because USAA has experienced such growth, but they didn't grow their IT department at the same time. I'm sure that'll happen soon though.

I must have them confused with another company then. There have been threads about IT people losing jobs to imported labor and the ones being replaced were the more senior types. Like saving money by cutting the tops of the trees and replacing it with mulch..

I think a lot of the disparity just comes from what department you're in and what your particular job is. I know a guy there who just suffered through at least a year on the phones so that he could transfer to a differenct department where he now does totally different work - and loves it. So I wouldn't be surprised if there's departments in USAA where it generally sucks to work, and departments where it's great.

yeah normally the departments that are in the high traffic call center volumes with managers constantly looking over you (auto claims, member relationship, etc) are the others where it sucks. i'd never work in those departments. toxic work environment altogether, don't understand why someone would wanna work at usaa in these areas.

the other areas where you have more freedom and where you don't take phone calls from customers 24/7 generally get more positive feedback.
