I read that Miss San Antonio, Domonique Ramirez, has been stripped of her crown for not obeying the rules of her contract. LULAC has filed suit on her behalf, and has recieved a temporary restraining order until they have a hearing on Feb. 16th. Supposedly, she didn't show up for required appearances, or showed up late, and gained weight, amoung other things. Umm....why is LULAC involved?

Ramirez did some clarifying of her own: the spat is not a racial issue. Her lawyer, Luis Vera, the national general counsel for the League of United Latin American Citizens, said Tuesday that LULAC is not involved in the matter but he forgot to remove his LULAC title from earlier emails to reporters.

I was guessing that it was something like that.

Some other people are like a HS kid that can't wait to start shooting ... their mouth off.
She should be dethroned just for being ugly

Ahhhh...thanks for clearing that up....I thought that was out of line, even for LULAC.

I'm just wondering,
how is it out of line when we don't have all the facts?

In another similar article from yesterday (Clash over beauty queen title turns ugly - San Antonio Express-News), Luis Vera with the League of United Latin American Citizens commented:

“The way I see this is these rich, white Dominion types versus the Latinos who are busting themselves to make a living,” said Vera, still fuming from what he said was an unsuccessful attempt to resolve the matter out of court. “She busted herself to graduate and better herself, and then they do this to her.”

Also....

"Vera said Ramirez's parents, a clerk at Baptist Health System and an aircraft sheet metal mechanic, were hardworking folks whose schedules often kept them from taking their daughter to appearances, which he said the organization demanded at the last minute. But the contract prohibits them from being present at any of the events, Vera said."

Thoughts?

Well, why should they get involved?

I would think it was because this is not a racial issue as stated by (the former) Miss San Antonio herself. I know SA has had more then one hispanic represent the city and the director currently has a hispanic surname as well--I realize that does not mean specifically that she is hispanic but I'm guessing race wouldn't be an issue. I do feel for the lawyer as I forgot to delete my company info once and the person I emailed threatened to call my boss and have me fired--I sent a comment about his radio station but not using bad language or anything.

Not sure what exactly the young lady did or didn't do. I do think perhaps 17 might be a tad young for the responsibilities such a title would carry so maybe there was some issues on both sides. On the other hand I only WISH I was 5'8" and 129 pounds--of course at 17 I had my tonsils out and slipped under 100, ah youth
