As much money as you are going to spend in gas,
might as well go ahead and put your kid in a private school.

Everyday you are going to have a 60 mile commute (let's say 50)
One week = 500 miles.
If your car gives you 25MPG and gas is $3.00 = $60/week in gas plus maintenance.

Thanks for the information. What is your impression of Comal ISD?, SV Middle School?

I personally do not have children but I do have friends/neighbors that have children at the elementary, middle and high and I have not heard other complaints. Of course the closer communities that go to Reagan High (and their feeders) are very much into their school district.

The drive to Randolph isn't terrible and if you have somewhat of a flexible schedule you can work with it. With the 281 superstreet completion the travel has become a lot easier. The earlier you leave for work the better morning commute.

I commute to USAA daily which is 19 miles and it isn't that bad at all.

I will tell you that they have a gifted class that seemed to be excellent, I met the teacher. I have to tell you I'm coming from homeschooling to public school so that may have influenced me. The honors classes are "pre-ap" courses. I was unhappy that all of the electives are full for both of my children's interests. One is going to be forced into choir or band and he is not a musical kid. They say he has no choice. The other one has more options to choose from but not within her passion of drama.

There is a bit of the FM 3009 FM 2252 (Nacodoches Rd) area that is Comal ISD that is right off of 35 that would be an easier commute. Although I'm not aware of what schools specifically they would be going to.

I wouldn't really put give any credence to those talking bad about Comal ISD, because not a one has said WHY. There's a prevailing thought here that the NISD and NEISD schools are the best, and while they're very good, most of our schools are very good. We spend a lot on education and our kids never really lack for anything. These posters make it sound like Comal is turning out stupid kids left and right, and I assure you, they're not. A stupid kid will be stupid in any school, and a good student will achieve in any school.

The OP wasn't asking for opinions on the school system or gas prices.

Sorry if I ruined this thread for you!
I was honestly curious about what you had heard about Comal and why it was the best, not really trying to talk poorly about it. I have already bought there and am moving soon!
