One of the attractive factors about SXSW is the fact that it is in Austin, not San Antonio. People are going to SXSW and also to Austin.

san antonio is BIGGER but it lacks the applicable substance that austin has (ie: a bigger downtown, solid venues, etc.) and as mentioned, it's an austin-grown event, and sa and tx are two completely different animals.

would it be nice to have an entity like sxsw in satx? hell yes. i love sxsw (also makerfaire, which once had a stint in austin.) but i just don't see that happening. if satx tried, it would probably be downgraded to another week long carnival festival of booze and fried dough. it'll be fiesta part 2.

Well after loving SA and now living in Austin I can't see South By leaving Austin. SA the "entertainment" streets that Austin has. There are certain streets in SA that have a couple of bars spread over the area but Austin does have that combine that with the hotels in that downtown core..its a magic formula for South by. Folks don't have to rent a car if they don't want to...I don't see the city of Austin wanting to let the fest go anywhere.to much money to be made from it.

I think this is a big factor. The first week is all about the interactive portion of the event and the second week is about the music and film.

IMO...I think San Antonio lost it's "pull" when the decision to end the Verizon Amphitheater came along,...they should have put more thought into building something like that for the future "long-run" for a very nice venue like the Verizon,...(the noise ordinance of Selma),...it ended very quick, almost without notice,...so S by SW is something that is not going to happen.

Well put... not in a million years.

I'd love to have a large music festival in SA, but not SXSW. It's an Austin event, it belongs to Austin. SA can come up with something new.

Did anyone attend the Sunday at the Pearl event with Ozomatli? The Pearl's new ampitheater is supposed to play host to a monthly music event. get out and enjoy that.

A million X 10. SA can’t handle a SXSW event.

If SXSW ever were to come to SA; that would indeed be very depressing.

For all those involved.

I don't see SXSW going to San Antonio, but if San Antonio wants to create a music scene it should create it's own not Austin. Anyways San Antonio should'nt feel bad, heck they have Sea World & Feista Texas Austin doesn't have any of those things.
