I work on the old Kelly AFB, now Kelly USA or is it Port of San Antonio…. Heck I don't know anymore… At any rate the reason that I'm writing into here is that despite GKDA's efforts to overprice the facility out of feasibility for most businesses, we are growing as an industrial and transportation hub. And what we need is a restaurant, fast food, bar, taco stand or something on the foot print. I mean with 1500 or so captive employees with a short meal break at my company alone I'm sure someone could make a nice profit with any of the afore mentioned establishments.
There are facilities off the Kelly's foot print but after you get out of your respective business, drive off Kelly, order your meal, your turning right around to head back before your break is over. Not to mention if it was a Chilies, Fridays, Applebee's, type establishment with food and bar you could have a huge after work crowd…. I mean come on you've got Lockheed Martin, Chromalloy, Gore, Atlantic, Pratt and Whitney, Air force billets, Boeing, and host of others big and small… trapped with only three exits off the site. Anybody have any ideas on how to get an establishment to move in….. I'm hungry, tired, I need a drink and I've got three thousand co workers with me… Doesn't anybody want our money!

Port San Antonio. Just have everyone talk about the need for it, see if anyone is interested in starting up a business. Hopefully some developer will hear and act on it.

the taco truck doesn't go there? I work in BLDG 178/179 occasionally and they are there every morning at around 8:20 AM. I'm sure if someone requested they show up around your lunch time they would make arrangements. $ is $..

KENS 5 Eyewitness News

It's hard to believe with recent sunny skies, but there are families across South Texas who are still dealing with flooding.

Throughout this summer, huge parts of the state have been under water and the American Red Cross has been there to help.

Now, the Red Cross has decided to base all of its operations for the area out of San Antonio, setting up a command center at Port San Antonio to coordinate it all.

Back when Kelly was thriving, my ex and I owned a pizza/sub shop just outside the main gate--we kicked butt out there, till they started making all the cuts. One morning we showed up to open and someone had driven their vehicle through the big plate glass windows out front, loaded up ALL of our equipment (except for the 2000 lb pizza oven, of course) and took off. We took that as a sign (duh) that it was time to shut down. We never re-opened, and within a couple of months most of the workers were gone. Life goes on, though!

Has any one heard about chromalloy pulling out of Port San Antonio there is talk that their contract with American Airlines is about to expire this year and that they will be laying off people. A friend of mine who works there said they dont know if thay have the contract since they have been in negotiations since April of this year and it has gone to a month to month base. That is the only thing kelly needs more companies going some where else.

There will be a cafeteria and two coffee kiosks in the renovated Bldg 171.
Numerous USAF organizations will occupy that building with 2,800 workers starting this Fall.

There's always the old Kelly Officer's Club. All you can eat for less than 10 bucks (if memory serves). Food isn't too bad, either.
