One thing I didn't mention was school systems. When we moved here, unfortunately, the schools we wanted were in car centric neighborhoods.

Default sounds like Southtown is what I've been looking for

I have a potential opportunity in San Antonio and I don't know anything about iti. Sigh. Is southtown anywhere near zip code 78251? What else can you tell me about southtown?

You need a car in SA, the bus doesnt go everywhere. But if you are going to go without one, there are some tricks that will help. The VIA operators or website can help you plan routes to where you need to go, but they dont always give you the best info. Make a note of all the bus lines with stops within 1-2 blocks of your house, also note the number code at the bottom of the signs.
Then do your own research. You can get paper maps of bus routes on the buses, or at VIA and community centers or use the website. Also, it really helps to have a city mapbook (or even a foldout) to use at home, much better than mapquest or internet. Study the area and routes near your destination, may may find walking a block to change lines may save you lots of commuting/waiting time. Note buses often have different schedules on weekends/holidays. Seems like a lot of work, but it can really pay off. Actually, sometimes the bus is better than a car. When I have daytime business downtown, I often find the bus preferable to driving. I have a stop in front of my house, and dont have to deal with finding/paying for parking, and those crazy one-way and dead end streets! Plus, for large city events, Park & Ride is THE way to go

If you have no clue about an area, you really shouldn't bother to respond.

No, 78251 is not near Southtown, but it's not that far either, depending upon where you need to be.
