Um, city elections are ALWAYS held in May.

If you're going to complain about city government, at least learn a little about it and vote.

There is no section on a user profile for ages but someone can put it in their biography section. Some of the regular posters more or less can guess a posters age from past thread comments (Ashbeigh mentioned she was a recent college grad straight from high school, etc.)

LOL yes, this board has some posers.
I am not sure where I said that you personally have anything against him.

I know you are not a hipster or poser. If there was a term for someone who must have the last word then that would most certainly be you.

As for this debate, I am finished. Carry on.

Personally I don't like the guy and think he's a racist who only serves one demographic of the city, but hey I am sure there are a million people who will argue that.

GO CASTRO!
Central Market? The Gucci-B? HA!!!

The well-off in Alamo Heights (and others who can afford to trek way over there to pay more in gas and more in expensive groceries on a regular basis) may not mind paying an arm an leg...but for the MAJORITY of San Antonians who can't afford to pay those outrageously expensive grocery prices, we don't go there.

And you are wrong. The "Gucci-B" is NOT "right next door to downtown..." Ask ANY person who lives downtown if they would agree with your "assessment."

There are many who live not only "in" downtown but many who live in the "surrounding" area of downtown. The surrounding area of downtown comprises more people as well in addition to those who are actually in downtown.

I guess the majority of San Antonians who voted for him to be mayor "like" to vote for people who are racists as mayor, huh?

NOT!!

yes, yes they are. when they seek to enrich and empower one race over another (as castro is doing), it is indeed racist and bigoted.

re: 'gucci' heb.

sorry youre flat wrong there. downtown is less than 5 minutes away (that, to me, is close by). the prices are on par with other HEB's (so long as you dont buy organic).

maybe you should shop there a few times before you make ridiculous comments that only show you've never actually shopped there.

cheers!

I like Castro as a person, but I have been less than impressed with his performance or leadership. He is another quiet turtle like Ed Garza.
He is focusing too much on issues that need to be left to the "Free Market". Like developing downtown and a downtown Grocery store. Tri-party tried that and failed. We had one of the largest companies in the world headquatered in our downtown and the city failed to use that momentum..and they moved away. Now we are back at square one.

The mayor/city needs to focus on bringing non-call center companies to town, put truant officers back ont he streets and put all these drop outs back in school. Stop wasting money on a performing arts center & light rail studies and enforce city codes to get this city cleaned up. It has really gone down hill in the past 10 years.

Off topic but regarding Central Market (or 'gucci' heb):

Central Market is close enough to downtown. I personally know people that live downtown that are able to make it there with little difficulty and time.

The prices there for most items are pretty much in line with other HEBs except for specality items that you are not able to get at other stores and that is where your wallet will take a beating once you start buying those items. It is not going to cost any more to buy regular brand butter or milk there than it would at HEB on Dezavala Rd. How do I know? I have shopped at both.

(Central Market is the only place I can find 'Delaware Punch' soda and I am thankful for that.)
