ive tried being civil, asking them politely to not let their dogs poop on my lawn. ive tried to educate their ignorance of the leash laws here. ive tried complaining to their landlord, who specifically stated he wants no pets in that unit.

yet, for reasons unknown to me, they still allow their *4* dogs outside, unleashed, to do whatever they please. 2 are juvenile pitts, one is a random rat dog (chi-something hybrid), one is a shar-pei mix.

the poor shar pei has it the worst. a few nights ago, it was barking most of the night. the neighbor who has claimed ownership of her came outside, beat her over the head a few times, yelled at her to shutup, then went back inside.

already reported that abuse to ACS and the police, but the other unleashed dogs are still presenting an issue. the rat dog and shar pei are picking up the aggressive tendencies of the pits. before the trashy neighbors moved in, the shar pei was a stray that was sweet as can be, wanted nothing more than to be fed and played with.

now, she lunges and barks at everything that walks past the house shes been staying at, barks all night, growls at the wife and i when we're going to our cars.

i have to escort my wife in the morning (when the dog is in the back) with a big shovel in my hands, waiting to smack the sh*t out of it should it lunge at us.

im at a loss. are there scents, fruits or vegetables (i know garlic keeps kitties at bay) that can be used at a deterrent to keep their mutts off my lawn and to not poop on it either?

-edit-

since the majority of my work is done from home, ive relocated my desk in such a way that i can monitor my front lawn (until i install a security system) and have the front water hose always on (doesnt drip). i just ran out there and sprayed the sh*t out of the 2 dogs that were thinking about sh*tting on my lawn. looks like this will be the only thing i can do til ACS picks up the mutts

Black pepper might work. I've consulted with some doggie lovers who are very knowledgeable and the pepper makes them sneeze which will make them stay away. My mom is going to try this on her lawn outside of the fence. I believe she put some in the grass a day or two ago...I will ask her if she saw any improvements.

that just might do it. the black pepper i have even makes my nose twitch... and my nose is generally immune to stuff like that. thanks for the suggestion, will give it a whirl and see what happens

I had neighbors who let their dogs poop right outside the front door, when we lived in an apartment complex. In the summer there were thick clouds of flies from all the dog poop. The smell was indescribable. One day the kids were all trying to play out there and one of the babies stepped in the poop. His dad asked if I knew where all that poop came from. I pointed out the apartment where the dogs lived, and that man got a barbeque spatula (hope he threw it out after) and scooped up every bit of dog crap from the lawn and deposited it on their doorstep.

After that, the dog owners took their animals through the fence and let them poop in the business park behind the complex.

Anyhow, call animal control and say that the dogs are unleashed and are acting aggressive when you try to leave your house.

We had a similiar problem a couple of years ago with a neighbor's cat. There was nothing better than putting my hands into good soil to work it and finding out that you were in a cat's toliet
Since I observed the cat in our flowerbeds I knew who owned it. I had no problem putting on a plastic bag and flinging the poop back over onto their yard.

Sure...removing the poop from your yard and swinging it back to the offenders home might feel good but it might either get a neighbor that retaliates and flings something else towards you and/or it doesn't stop other dogs that might be strays from pooping in your area.
The dog forum in City-Data has lots of threads on this...its a unpawfect issue, lol.
I'm all ears for other natural remedies for preventing dogs from pooping in the yard as well in case my mom's black pepper trick doesn't work.

not worried about retaliation. my landlord is actually good friends with their landlord (found this out about 10 minutes ago) and is going to have a chitchat with him about the dogs they are keeping (since my landlord has observed it also).

the threat of eviction should outweigh any retaliation, im hoping. besides, ive actually SEEN their dogs pooping in my lawn. im not just guessing that it might be theirs. earlier i took the garden hose to one of them for trying to poop on my lawn. frickin mutt gave me this pissed off look, then went to do its business in their lawn

I once tried the pepper solution but it didn't do much good.
