Has anyone looked at KSAT online today?
The first six stories are shooting/drug/killing/etc related.

Now, I love San Antonio but I have to be honest and say the crime here is starting to sound as frequent and alot like the crime when I lived in Memphis. At that time Memphis was ranked 2nd in the nation per capita in crime.

I don't mean this to be a bash San Antonio thread because I love it here but I am starting to wonder what the crime rate is compared to other cities.

The news is depressing. I do fault our local stations for reporting this, yes we have crime but my point is this, why don't our local news stations report more positive stories going on in S.A. or more business news of our local companies??

I think both need to be reported equally. I want to know what's going on around me, the good the bad and the ugly. It just seems like the latter two have increased around here lately.

KSAT seems to be the station that does not focus on all the shootings and blood and guts stuff. I think sometimes it's what is happening and it looks worse than it really is.

It's not news, it's entertainment that centers on sensationalizing stories. The Many Weapons Seized In Mexico From US report is one such example, there has been overwhelming evidence showing that isn't true. I have access to LE reporting that shows it has never been proven that any substantial number of firearms have gone into Mexico from the US, but the media continues to run that headline.

It's just yet another reason I don't bother watching the local news. There are better sources of information out there, many without the biases and agendas of these “agencies.” They’re not hard to find…

There is a nationally-known truism in the local news business that was invented 30+ years ago. "If it bleeds, it leads." Meaning that the most violent stories should be stacked as close to the top of a newscast as possible.

It was coined by a news director at KSAT. Seriously.

Back to the original topic...

Hot weather always increases the amount of violent crime in urban areas. This is true around the country. It's just more noticeable in places where the weather is cold for months at a time.

It is no coincidence that San Antonio's crime rate has gone up. What boggles my mind is it doesn't seem to be connected to anything that is going on in MX--at least, according to the news and our city officials. Really??

I came from a small town that only had 1 murder, that's right...1 murder in 2001. Yet, almost every story on the evening was about a beating, burglary, shooting, etc. What kind of books sell? What kind of movies? Games?

Yeah everyone loves all the drama until they actually have to live with being a victim or a loved one of a victim.
