Austin and San Antonio are the worst. Maybe with more growth, it'll get better.
it just seems like san antonio's roadways (and drivers) are a completely different animal than anywhere else. commutes in ca can be really congested, but there isn't nearly as many change overs or access roads or clover leaf systems as in san antonio (even la traffic, though a mad house feels sane compared to sa.) my visiting relatives have really been thrown for a loop by the traffic here.

personally, i would think it's the growth that's making it so crappy. congested roadways with more and more people who /have to/ drive and poor planning and such.

Isn't LA notorious for their traffic? Pretty sad when LA folks are complaing about the SA traffic. HA!

I've been known to do that, but only when Six Flags is closed.

A lot of times I just take the frontage road and make a left.

So, this happened to me last night when driving back home: turning left on a dedicated green light into the right lane of the crossing street. A car that was on the opposite corner (with a yield sign) turns right into the same lane right in front of me and then slows down significantly. I'm already upset at this point, but then when I pass him on the left, the driver (which looked like a teenager) gives me the finger...as if I had been the one disrespecting the signs

Wanting to give him a lesson, I drove in front of him and slowed down. I guess he got scared, because he slowed down even more...then he changed lanes and tried to turn left. I changes lanes to (still ahead of him) and stop right at the turn to block him. At that point he wouldn't honk or even make a face. I guess he learned his lesson, so I just drove away. Was I too aggressive?

And here I was thinking folks here were super polite because I've never experienced...lol.

Well, this is how road rage incidents get started and escalate.

He could have responded very differently... and then the escalation would have started depending on your response.

People seem to morph into different personalities once behind the wheel.

Not at all. Too aggressive would be getting out of your car, ripping off your shirt, and telling him to wave that lil finger at you again. That's usually what I do. You're all good man.

You're lucky you weren't shot. I dated a guy who was shot because of road rage; and a couple of months ago, an Alamo Heights teen was shot down the street from me after him and his friends followed a guy who almost hit them in a parking lot.

What lesson did he learn? And yes.

Two lessons:

1) If you don't obey signs of the road...there may be consequences
2) If you give the finger to someone...there may be consequences

Yes...seems like I was too aggressive...
