Has anyone here used any of the chain dental offices like Castle Dental or Monarch Dental? I've never used any sort of chains, but they're one of the few that accept both my primary and secondary insurance policies (United Concordia and SafeGuard) and I'm a bit hesitant as to me, chains usually mean lower quality. Any positive experiences?

I had a DMO one year that required that I use Castle Dental.

Nothing positive came out of that relationship. I'm sorry.

I had a bad experience with Castle Dental as well. The last time I was there I was told that I needed a crown. When I came out to the waiting room my husband said the three previous people who came out said they were told they needed a crown. My confidence wasn't boosted when I oversaw a chalkboard in one of the offices with monthly sales figures posted prominently on it.

Luckily, my DMO added other coverage and I was able to move my business elsewhere before paying over $800 (just my portion) for an unnecessary procedure. I have been with my current dentist over 5 years and he has never indicated that I need a crown.

Hopefully someone has had a good experience at a specific Castle/Monarch location that they can share.

The negative experiences are just as helpful. With my new DMO, I've found dentists that aren't chains, so I'm going with my gut and avoiding chain practices.

There are hundreds of providers who are in network for United Concordia in SA. Safeguard is probably different but as a secondary claim, out of network probably won't make much difference. You want a dentist that treats you, not your insurance company. Ask your friends or neighbors who they go to and who they like. It's a better way to pick a dentist than from an insurance list.
