San Antonio B-cycle | San Antonio Bike-Sharing Program | B-Cycle | bcycle.com

Great concept and I've bought my annual membership at the discounted $25 rate. It's mostly a benefit to those who live around the bike centers (mostly South/Downtowners), but things like this are what make a city unique and create a new sense of community. I really am glad they decided to give SA a shot.

Anyone else here live near one or might think of using the system?

I saw a station at Ellis Alley Park and Ride and I saw someone pedaling on a bike in downtown this morning towing a sign about it?

Nice, I hope San Antonio can evolve some and include peddlers into the fabric of the city. It's really unsafe out there for cyclist, on the other hand some cyclist are lane Nazis.

Hopefully this will help bridge the communities.

Does San Antonio participate in a Critical Mass biking event monthly?

I am so excited about this, but more on principle than intent to use....we have bikes and due to kids, have assorted attachments so probably won't have much need for the share program. However, I am very glad it's here!

How will they keep the bikes from being stolen?

I used to live in a city up north where the city government offered free bike-sharing and it was just a few weeks before all 100 bikes put out for the program disappeared!

I wish 'em well, but gotta tell you, it's my personal belief that every one of 'em will be gone within 30 days or less - I mean, c'mon folks - a CAR isn't safe in SA - what genius came up w/the idea that bicycles are gonna be "safe"?!???

Well I think this program requires a credit card, so if you don't return your bike, you'll be charged

It's not the people renting the bikes that will be stealing them. If they insist on charging the renters, even with a filed police report, etc. then I'm sure participation will steeply decline.

Did you click on the link and read about this at all? I'm not certain where all of your dubiousness ( maybe I just made up a word ? ) comes from but I'm not sure you understand how this works.

Folks rent the bike, stop to grab a soda, come out...bike gone. Now what? Yeah I read it - and I'm sure the low-life in the city can't wait. What're they gonna do - make the poor guy/gal that rented it pay for it? Like THAT is gonna make any friends....
