That too, but you're kidding yourself if you think that's a problem unique to San Antonio. Maybe all the cities I travel to are trashy, but I have seen trashy people everywhere. The difference is some cities do a better job at cleaning up their trash.

indeed. where there's a lack of refuse bins around public areas (even private property like around businesses) and the available bins are not emptied or maintained, i'm not surprised things get pretty gross. that is but one example, and not intended to excuse other peoples' responsibilities, but like most problems, it's a lot of sums that are making up this whole (or, "hole" if you want to be snarky )

Definitely noticed the lack of trash cans around here. I'm always cleaning out the car for my wife and sometimes I'll carry around some trash for quite a while before I find somewhere to dispose of it. Shopping centers seem to be the worst too. If you ever want to see disgusting, though, check out a wally world parking lot before the nightly sweeping... those people obviously don't even attempt to find a trash can.
The one company that does the best job is HEB. They always have a garbage can by where you return the carts. I also see them cleaning up during the day, which is never the case with wally world.

Yes, then I'd say you are traveling to cities that are trashy. I think of Colorado Springs and the 9 yrs. I spent there. Never saw people throwing out trash. Here in Branson, a tourist area, it's not a problem. In SA it is part of the accepted culture and those who wouldn't use trash receptacles if they were placed every 3 ft. .

i've never seen a target trash can that wasn't over flowing.

i once thought about setting a trash/recycling bin by the mailboxes, since the mailboxes are on our property and people seem to just want to toss the junk mail on the ground (our lawn) along with their empty alcohol containers (seething rage...) i wouldn't mind emptying it out into our bin since we don't generate much refuse, but i just know it it'd be a) not used and b) abused.
