Yep ! Speedy is the one I was trying to recall the name of. It's on Military Dr. between Flores and Pleasanton road next to Subway. Great chicken and fried okra!

Oh man I have been dying to get to that place. My step dad (former CD member actually) used to live there before he passed away. I'd get a call a couple times a week that he had been there and to come pick up what I wanted. We still havent made it there ourselves.

If you go, be forewarned that the Laredo Street bridge is under construction about a block from there this summer, so you have to cross the creek a few blocks to the north or south to get there. We went there today and picked up about $10 worth of produce that would easily have cost $25 at HEB. Plus I got to try a pineapple paleta for the first time!

I work on the southside but live on the far west side.

For lunch, Nicha's is one of my favorites for Mexican food. Not a big fan of Don Pedro's but it's a south side staple like Bud Jones.

There's a new kabob restaurant on SW Military going west just past Pleasanton road. It's pretty good and something other than Mexican /Golden Corral. Sasha kabob I think....good stuff.

Avoid, avoid, avoid any Chinese buffets on Military road. Both are always in the dirty dozen restaurants in San Antonio.

Nicha's is owned by same family as Minute Taco was at same location. We've been generally pleased most of the times we eat there.

Also....can't beat Big Lou's pizza on W.W. White road. Not sure if they consider it south side but it's close and damn good pizza.

Heads-up...expect a line if you go on the weekends.

I totally agree with you regarding Chinese food off sw military, except Panda Express(not buffet I know) which is decent. All the rest of the Chinese food places I avoid at all costs.

Since folks mentioned Bolner's several times already, I'll just piggyback and say that we went there yesterday and LOVED IT! Great atmosphere inside, nice people and excellent brisket and chicken.
