Wanting to take my beach loving son to get away for a couple of days. Trying to decide between Mustang Island and Rockport. Just looking for a place to let him use (attempt) his surf board and hang out, eat some decent but not pricey seafood and enjoy mom son time before the madness of high school sets in.
So please, don't post what all you hate or how crappy you think the Texas coast is. Just tell me what you do like, recommend some restaurants or whatever!

The beach I vissited at Rockport had no waves. It's great for the little ones. I say Mustang Island for your surfer boy.

Go to the Island for waves..go to VRBO online to find a rental and go to Port A brewing company for a good brew and burger. Moby Dick is also a fairly priced place with sea food.

I'd go to South Padre & show him a really good time, but yes, if you have to stay close by, I'd take Mustang Island. That's just my experience, though.

Good luck! And you're SUCH a great mom, no joke. Just be sure to teach him how to get girls in high school (if he doesn't know how yet) and you'll be TRIPLE awesome!

Thanks for the input. We've been to spi and originally had a week planned there but since hubby can't go this year I figured we'd change things up a bit, do a different place but still have some fun together. So Mustang Island it is!
Soviet, I'm so not ready for the girls. He is though. He has the southern boy charm and comes across as the nice boy next door. You know those girls always like the bad boys at this age rather than the one carrying their books for them :/

Rockport/Port Aransas is technically within the territory of the Corpus Christi forum. Your questions are vacation-focused and I imagine more San Antonians vacation there, but you might get some different perspectives from the locals. Since cross-posting is not allowed, DM me (or report this post) if you'd like this thread moved to that forum after it slows down here.
