The tickets that he has gotten, he gets the inspection or the registration and then it cost $10 court costs to get rid of the ticket. Those tickets are a lot less painful than the no seatbelt or speeding tickets.

Anyhow, you've got to renew the registration every year. You don't get extra months for going in later, like you do with the inspection sticker. Maybe you could get by with keeping the new sticker in your glove compartment and then if you get pulled over, just telling the officer that you renewed the registration but totally forgot to put the sticker on...would depend on the cop whether or not you got a ticket.
I thought that the registration comes automatically in the mail? That's what's always happened with me.

my husband doesn't let it expire if he can help it. he's got that kind of luck with cops and cars. he was ticketed for having dirt of the license plate light once, and i believe long ago (with a different car, while living at home) he was ticketed mere weeks after his reg expired or some such. since he had to park on the sidewalk, the car was considered abandoned, or something. he's got a million sob stories of annoying things like that; some are justifiable, some are just plane silly. needless to say though, because of his rotten luck he changes reg/spec and uses cruse control religiously.

Wow, that's terrible luck. The sad thing is, overzealous police enforcement doesn't necessarily make us safer. Very interesting.

Yep.....see what I mean? What's "overzealous" about citing someone for breaking the law?

That has been my thought exactly... "lets see who has gotten away with this for the longest".

I have lived in areas where a "clean air" program exists. They skipped the basic safety check and went straight to checking if the vehicle fit into the emissions guidelines.

The inspection sticker seems more of a money grabbing sham to me... especially when it applies to new vehicles. Sure, the certificate is good for 2-years on a new vehicle but the inspection is totally unnecessary. New vehicles should be able to operate legally without the sticker for at least 2-years.

It does...but then you have to go pay your $65 or however much they're charging. That was the part where my husband used to get hung up on details He has a hard time spending money on anything unless he really feels it's urgent.

My car is a 2010 year model, and I only got a 1 year sticker. It is a sham for new cars.

I once drove a car with 1996 inspection sticker to an inspection station back in 2008 and got pulled over on the way.

I explained to him I was in the process of getting it up to date and he followed me to the inspection station and let me go.

I had current registration and insurance though and that was such pain to get since I had inherited the car.

(this wasn't in San Antonio)
