B/C UTSA used to be the only thing out there when it was first built. That was "the sticks" back in the day. The closest HEB was the one at 10/Wurzbach. Closest theatre was the Northwest there at 410/10. Only thing on Dezavala was Locke Hill and Clark and Pizza Hut. I grew up in that area from 1979-2011. It was seriously the Diamond Shamrock on Hausman/Babcock and UTSA. No Fiesta TX, La Cantera, shopping, dining, traffic. You know....back in simpler times. Now it is crazy over there and that is why I moved. But the traffic and everything else followed me to 1604/151!

It was just more of an ironic statement. The Pizza Hut opened the weekend my baby sister was born...she's 20 now. And the whatever it is across the street from Valero near Shavano Ridge was a Stop and Go.

Yup, I remember that Stop and Go. We used to stop in there before/after school. Then we'd always be tardy getting stuck behind the train. I might have been tardy to class 3/4 of the time while at Clark. I think now old neighborhood feeds into Brandeis???

No, I don't believe so. The neighborhoods closer to 1604 go to Brandeis. Those schools are way to close to Clark to go to Brandeis. Not to mention NISD wouldn't take Shavano Park away from Clark. That would cause a riot.

And wasn't the Broadway Daily Bread a gas station as well? No, I know it was...a 7-11. Totally thread highjacked. Sorry.

The Stop and Go was the go to place for ice cream after/during the pool in elementary school.

Back in the very old days before IH35 and other highways, didn't Bandera road, which started close into downtown run all the way to Bandera Tx and didn't Austin Hwy road go all the way to Austin?

A couple of tidbits on this topic

I used to workin the Nowlin Building 9211 San Pedro (now the SWBC builcing - Tall glass & pink granite building across from Tom Benson). Anyway, from the upper floors you can see completely down San Pedro to downtown. It is a perfectly straight street. It is an amazing view from that vantage point.

Fredericksburg. At the (Hooters) corner of Wurzbach. There is now one of these payday loan places. There is a small stone wall with historical marker that used to Wolfes Inn. In the old days before cars, it was known as "9 Mile Hill". Meaning it was 9 miles all down hill San Antonio.

New Braunfels is long but doubtful it would win unless we are talking about San Antonio circa 1982.
Here's a link to a WW White. A Col. in the Civil War. Don't know if it's the same person but SA is a Military town. I wonder is Col. White was ever stationed at Fort Sam?

It actually goes all the way past Bandera near the Hobby Lobby.

It's 13.3 miles.
