It's the city's only major league sports team. As long as they're winning, the fanbase will keep growing.

Personally, I have to agree. I see enough spurs memorabilia out and about. I don't mind people enjoying their sports, I just wish there was more variety I guess. With the Spurs here it's like the borg, you will be assimilated.

Outside of my personal feelings, though, it is a crafty way to make additional funds. Roughly half the city won't be able to resist.

It occurred to me today that this plate will actually be a rare opportunity for the government (and taxpayers) to make money directly off of a professional sports team. The state gets a cut of license plate sales and I presume the Spurs organization will get some of this, too, for licensing their logo.

Usually pro teams cost taxpayers money and the little bit of money they generate for government indirectly by sales taxes is very hard to measure and easy to exaggerate.
