WOAI ran a story a few days ago disclosing a plan that Mayor Hardberger wants to implement this term. Unfortunately, I can't find any info on their website to share with y'all, but if you do find it, please post it.

From what I can remember from the broadcast, Hardberger wants to beautify the area between Main Plaza and Market Square. To do that, he wants to get rid of the parking behind City Hall and move it to a Parking Garage he wants to build where the City Hall Annex sits now. The old parking lot that sits there now would then be converted into green space, gardens similar to what is inside the Spanish Governor's Palace.

And of course the downside to this, as you may assume, is how much this plan would cost us in SA. He said that most likely that our taxes would pay for the project.

But, in my opinion, I do think that would be money well spent.

I apologize, WOAI may have made it more exciting than it really is... but I also have been in that area of downtown a lot lately, so I do think that would have a substantial impact in the downtown area...

Anything that gets rid of surface parking downtown gets my vote.
