Distance to gym is a HUGE FACTOR in a person's commitment to exercise on a consistent and frequent basis. Nothing kills the workout mood more than the thought of having to wait in rush hour to get to your gym.

Plenty of room in that area to squeeze in a gym. It doesn't really matter to me if it is Gold's or Spectrum. Honestly weights are weights no matter where you go to workout. But proximity is definitely something I considered in choosing a gym. If it is up the street the likelihood of me going is higher. We do need a gym over here though.

We pay $150-$160 for our family of 2 adults, 1 teen and a 4 y.o.... Not 100% sure of the exact amount.. but they auto charge my card about $200-$205 every month including $ 40 swimming lessons..
We like it.. but it was half price back in NC.. for the same type of gym.. it hurts to pay it every month.. but we like it! =)

The best... pickup the phone and ask them these questions.

I pay $62 a month (that includes taxes). Have been a member since the trailer/pre-construction phase at the 281 location. It's gone up a total of $10 in the last 6 years.

Do other districts do this as well?

I went to their website and initiated an e-mail to inquire about their rates. They are high. For the three of us it was going to run over $150 a month. I know the facilities are nice but I just can't justify the bill right now. Walking is free.

Blah blah blah, I know the health benefits of belonging to and actually using a gym. Spare the thread from the de-rail please.

I say do and go with what makes you comfortable. I took a test drive of Lifetime for two weeks, found it crowded, too full of teenagers wanting to just socialize and locker rooms that were dirty, so I decided to go with Spectrum. I've been moderately happy.

I do like that the city is now doing free, outdoor Zumba classes and attempting to focus on offering more cost-effective ways of getting folks moving. I'd love to see more local parks install small exercise stations (chin-up, push-up, etc). Dreaming even further, I'd love an outdoor gym to open up ala Venice Beach.
