I saw last week where the Postmaster General was talking about reducing mail delivery to just three times a week!

Odd how all but one are within the 410 Loop, and the one that isn't is very close to it. Thoughts?

Cheers! M2

This is the one that's closest to me -->Hackberry - 200 S. Hackberry<-- and every time I go it seems busy not as busy as the Clark Ave one but it still takes awhile to get out of there. I really don't care if it closes or not. The Clark ave one isn't that much further anyway.

I dislike the idea of shutting down both of those downtown locations. They should keep at least one of them.

Not really surprising in my opinion. I get one bill in the mail (the only company I work with that doesnt have online billing) and the rest is literally junk mail. Three days a week would work fine for me since I only really need mail delivery for online purchases and the odd crap my company sends me since I work from home.

They're inside of 410? Maybe the ones outside of 410 are very busy and get lots of traffice? I don't know why but the post office at Lockhill Selma is always chock-a-block, hands arms legs everywhere.

Close them all. It's got to be done. People are mailing less.

Good. Due to my work I hear a lot more about how the post office is run, how much money they're losing, and what they're planning to do about it than the average person.

Congress needs to let them go to five-day delivery yesterday, they should probably close more post offices, and they need to accept that mail volume will continue to decline, both regular and junk mail. The only thing on the rise is packages.

I heard that one of their plans to address falling mail volumes was to advertise to try to convince people to send snail mail. Like ads on TV telling you to send mail. Yeah.

Well, it looks like the list was revised to just three...

3,600 post offices up for closure: 3 here - San Antonio Express-News
Downtown (Alamo Plaza), 615 E. Houston St.

Los Jardines, 5555 San Fernando St.

Hackberry, 2000 S. Hackberry St.
I was shocked by the Alamo Plaza one, but in further thinking that may be a good one to convert into something more useful like a museum or some other facility that will complement the historical aspects of that area.

It may just be nostalgia, but I still enjoy getting the mail. In Belgium it was a twice-a-day event at the APO (the military post office). We'd check it once on our way to lunch, then again after work. Since we were overseas, a lot of folks would order things that we couldn't get locally through the mail. It was almost like a mini-Christmas some days, everybody would see what others got when they opened the package!

But I understand the strain the USPS is under, between email and UPS/FedEx there has been a lot of competition for them. Plus, as noted, it seems like much of what they deliver is junk mail; but I guess those help pay the bills for them!

Cheers! M2

USPS makes plenty of money. It's just that ever since they've had to give most of their $$ to the rest of the government, they've been in the red. Classic government finance. So totally ridiculous.

The two postal workers unions won't even let the USPS cut back on Saturdays...I can't imagine 3 days a week. The unions run the show, unfortunately.

Anything depending on the government like this is doomed for failure at some point. I don't have a problem with mail being cut back to 3-days a week. Most of it is garbage anyway. Everyone emails now. Everyone has phones. Banking is online for most people.

I think they should just eventually fold the whole thing and let Fed Ex and UPS (and anyone else that comes along) pick up the ball and run with it. It'd be more efficiently run and probably a heck of a lot cheaper.
