Actually, if wrecked/stolen, it could be filed as part of the loss claim....

Its best to get the registration done at HEB instead of going to the few city operated offices. Its best to keep most of your money in the bank collecting interest or to save it for emergency. Registration fee should just be done once at the time the car is purchased. I know that some of that money goes to building new highways and maintaining the roads but the vehicles that cause most of the damage are commercial trucks and city buses and then the rain water worsens them. Instead of $60+ a year for every year you own the vehicle it should be a one time $100 fee and thats it.

Interesting point. But would most people remember to do that, or is that pro-rated registration balance routinely part of an auto insurance claim? (I've never totaled a vehicle or filed an auto claim in TX.)

If it's current on registration, then it'd be part of the value of the vehicle - but if you paid in advance and you're not "using" it at the time of the loss, then you should be able to add it, since it's additional value.

True, but little fact that some know is that Commercial vehicle's regirstration is 18 times more than what a regular car pays. not to mention those of us that actually purchase weight permits add 800 bucks. Add Road use Taxes another 600. Although lots of contractors pocket the money and order the cheapest material possible ***cough Austin Road and Bridge cough*** and do a ****tty job, bribe the inspector, and use junk supplies. Why do they do this? Job Security Road breaks and contractors and people blame heavy trucks when in reality is that they are getting ripped off.

I'll add another for you in areas where there are more truck traffic, the roads are either a thick layer of cement with a thin layer of asphalt for cushioning, as the asphalt wears they can scrape and re surface in a matter of days.

Ya'll must all live in cities...I drove the mile to the office and got mine in person. One person ahead of me just finishing. Took all of 3 minutes. Guess I found one advantage of living in a small town!

Yeah, there's a fair few advantages to that, for sure. I've never lived in a city smaller than San Antonio, though. Always lived in cities with more than 4 million people: San Antonio's the smallest city I've ever lived in. Not sure I'd trade a city for anything else.
