Reminds me of O.P. Schnabel's efforts to keep San Antonio beautiful!

whether it was for the debt or not, picking up trash on the streets at the age of 83, during this heat, for the past 2 years?

my hat goes off to you good sir.

So, kudos to him for picking up cans from the street. It's really sad to see people littering the streets and parks, and definitely if everyone were like Mr. Garcia our city would be really beautiful. The part I did't get was the debt reduction part. Sounds to me like trying to lose weight by wearing lighter clothes, not effective at all. What am I missing?

Picking up litter is obviously great, but until we stop deficit spending as a nation it's not going to do jack for the debt.

It's not just about eliminating the debt, but more about a person with lots of spirit, motivation, and a desire to do something to help make our city a better place, and at the same time helping with our debt responsibility. Can you imagine if everyone had his drive for helping?

...and yes, it WILL take a lot of cans.

I remember that years ago kids here used to go door to door collecting aluminum cans as a fund raiser for school activities. No more. Nowadays I wouldn't even know any place to take them where they'd benefit any good cause.
