I am a car enthusiast, and like detailing my own car. Are we allowed to wash our cars in the driveway?

Yes, but with limitations.

From the SAWS website:
"Residential washing of vehicles or other equipment is allowed only on assigned watering days and times. A hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle or bucket of five gallons or less may be used. Water should not be allowed to run into the street."

I never understood why we can handwater any day but only wash our cars on our given day.

Time too. So between 3am and 8am and btwn 8pm-10pm, so you need some floodlights to see what you are doing.

if you hand water, you dont really have an assigned day. is this assuming the assigned day for sprinkler systems, etc etc?

Is residential washing of vehicles more like hand watering or using sprinklers?

^^^ Its like a hand watering. According to source you are to use a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle or bucket of five gallons or less:

Youre supposed to wash your car on your watering day as determined by your address. You want to avoid water running off into the street so use a bucket and rinse only when you have to.

Right how the aquifer level is 640.9.
When it gets down to <640 we will be put in a stage 3 drought restrictions.
