wow japan-virginia, the top photo is the kind of lawn I want, where do I find a landscaper to do this here in San Antonio? Makes me want to "import" that lawn to here. I agree that those green grass lawns are crazy concepts for this area.

I'm fond of rocks...love to use them here and there in the yard...but THAT much rocks? Really??? It's totally unnecessary to go that far...unless you really love that look...and if not done well, could be a big disaster! BTW, we received a letter from the water company that my area is in Stage 3 water restrictions as of now. Different rules than S.A. would have for Stage 3, however!

Well, it's really close to San Antonio, so I wouldn't be surprised if Stage 3 comes here shortly, as well.

And my land has mulch and rocks & we love it! No water-suckin' grass for us. Water's for PEOPLE & ANIMALS, not grass!

I predict sales of Aveeno and other lotions will increase this winter. Have already started to use lots more as of late.

Giving you a rep for that one. Really, water-sucking grass is an idiotic concept that needs to expire here along with the drought.

San Antonio is virtually a desert, and does not need to have grass planted in new homes. And when it dies, like all over now, replace it with zeriscape or rock. What a waste of water to TRY to keep the grass green.

I would love to do just that, please tell my HOA.

Maintenance-free

no more fooling around with the lawn mower every year...

So are all of these a no-go with SA area HOAs? Too bad if that's the case, since I'm kind of feeling these yards a little. You could even go with one of those "Zen" gardens with the raked sand and a few well placed stones to ponder.

Only out-of-towners believe we are a desert.

People should also be able to do what they want with their yards. Suprisingly most of the water being used is not by homes or even golf courses. Surprise, surprise.

Xeriscaping can also be appealingly attractive but there are more than a few horrrible examples too.
