Hello all,
What are the closest, best areas to live if working at Ft Sam Houston? Any particular apt complexes?
Thank you for advice.

The apartments near Oakwell Farms (Harry Wurzbach/410 area) seem pretty nice and very close to Ft. Sam.

I live in East Terrell Hills (Rittiman/35 area). The houses are older, but decent with good sized backyards (rent is pretty reasonable in the neighborhood, we have many neighbors who are in the military) ... but I would not recommend the apartments in this area as they are pretty shady.

There is a new apartment com[lex on Austin Hiway near Vandiver. also complexes on Vandiver between Rittiman and Austin Hiway.
Also Terrill Heights has a few nice complexes. Mahncke Park and Government Hill are other neighborhoods near Ft. Sam. As always there's Alamo Heights.
What's your price range and size needs?

There are two apartment complexes under the same management on Eisenhauer and Vandiver. The last I heard, they don't take Section 8 vouchers. They were nice when my family lived there. They were called the Rock Creek and La Fiesta. I don't know if they still go by the same names. The apartment complexes in Oakwell Farms are very nice, but pricey. A couple of the apartments on Harry Wurzbach are poorly managed and the cheap duplexes/fourplexes surrounding Alamo Heights are mostly raggedy.

I'm not on Section 8, but most of the people in my apartment complex are. All of the residents have squeaky clean criminal records. I accidentally left my laptop in my car all day and no one touched it. My neighbors leave all of their bikes outside and no one has stolen them. It all depends.
