I bumped into this corny video of the abandoned Windsor Park mall. I don't think it has been posted before. I only visited once in 1986 while on a high school trip to San Antonio. Still, its kind of weird seeing it like this.

Here's a write up leading up to the video:

Is Rackspace done with its modifications and did they keep the structure intact or was it a tear down? If an intrepid employee can post a picture of what it looks like now this enquiring mind would appreciate it.

from what i've heard from the couple rackspace employees i know, they're getting ready to consolidate some of their satellite locations in into the "castle" in november. don't quote me on that, though. what they've actually done to the place i wouldn't know.

i don't really know what windsor park mall looks like beyond the bits and pieces i've seen in videos and such. i'm also not familiar with other places rackspace occupies in san antonio. however, some flickr searching came up with a few photos:

Rackspace January 2011 - a set on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/laughingsquid/sets/72157626444695469/with/5650754999/ - broken link)
i want to say that might be the mall being that it has escalators, but i wouldn't know.

Yeah, that place was awesome in it's heyday. The Toy Box, Wyatt's Cafeteria, The theater with the arcade next door.
I once made my mom buy me a block of white chocolate from the Russell Stover's.
Mervyns was one of the last stores open I believe. I said "there goes my mom's Isotoner gloves for Christmas.

November is a bit of a stretch. An "express" phase was completed to accommodate organic growth at the Castle (Windsor) location while the remain part of the phase is to accommodate the move of the remaining Rackers from our older headquarters with a target of December. Like all things time dependent though, in all likelihood, would be pushed to early 2012 due to logistics of final clean up, moving furniture, shift coverage and staggered movement of teams dependent on each other.

The Castle location is pretty much your standard light filled, open, modern design. The UK office (named the Whitehouse), in my opinion, is far superior though.

that makes more sense. man that london building is amazing! still, the sa one is nothing to sneeze at either, i know a lot of people would kill for a work environment as accommodating and engaging as rackspace san antonio. even though that was a design promo, i'd love to see a similar video tour of the castle when they've finished with it.

I remember the old Windsor Park Mall back in the 1970s and 80s.We sometimes would go to the movie there. We also went to Wards,at a Lucca's pizza, the El Chico and Wyatt's there.
I remember Russel Stovers and Orange julius and the corndog place where the girls dressed in stripped outfits. Then things started going down hill due to the gangs hanging out there, so we stopped going. Yeah there are escalators in the place.I remember to when there was a Joske's in there as well.
