Any thoughts on the one-month trial reopening of the Mission Drive-In? I am new to town and was excited to hear about it--will be checking it out. Five bucks a carload was mentioned in the paper today and they have some decent movies on the two screens.

I heard about it yesterday on the radio on the way to work. The drive-in will open with a traditional double feature they said. I was excited, I came from a town with many drive-ins as a kid and none now I will try to make it a few times this summer.

The Mission Drive Inn is a Southside institution and it should never be shut down.

Do they have a concession area? I've never been there. I picture concession stand in the Hooters video "And We Dance", or the larger indoor one in the movie, The Outsiders.

I'm going to get a truck full of people and go. The article said the concession stand will be limited. If enough people show up and support the drive-in, it may well stay open.
I remember the days when we would load a car, including the trunk, and go to the drive-in and hang out all night. Sometimes we even watched the movie.
And remember, never approach a car with fogged up windows...they called it a "passion pit" for a reason.

[insert happy squeals here]

I was so very much hoping this would happen.

Some friends and I are informing as many people as we can buttonhole for a few seconds; we're also considering putting flyers out in as many places as will let us.

A coworker mentioned maybe we could do a Sunday movie night. Is the drive-in open on Sunday? (please say yes)

' Only two screens will be in operation this weekend, and the drive-in will only be open Fridays and Saturdays throughout the fall, "as long as the weather holds and people come," said a Santikos spokesperson. '

Default Mission Drive in purchased for $3.3 Million?!?!

Does anyone else think that this price is outlandish for a piece of land with only a few buildings on it? It is high time that city officials are held accountable for the exorbitant funds dished out for their whimsical purchases. We live in a city where our neighborhood schools are wasting away due to flooding and none are being rebuilt yet we can spend such figures on a barren strip of land? Our children do not have enough books to aid in the learning process and our health care system is a joke yet the politicians find time to scratch the backs of their supporters? Wake up, San Antonio, and demand to know where your money is going.
