We are moving to SA to live near daughter and son-in-law and 3 grandsons AND to get away from dealing with hurricanes near the beach and living on an earth quake fault!!

We pretty much want what we said in title - we would love to use a private green contractor/builder but can not afford same size house this way.

We currently live one mile from a pharmacy, one mile from grocery store, one mile from fast food, one mile from good shaded running trails, one mile from small department store, 3 miles from an interstate and 5 miles from a medical center with good emergency room and many many many doctors offices. Would STAY here - except ...... daughter, son-in-law, grandsons, hurricanes, earthquakes!!!

Have visited the area a lot. BUT know only what our eyes can see and not what a longer terrm resident would know. Do not want to be further from our kids in Cibolo than 15 to 20 minutes (but really - no closer!!) Would like to be able to bicycle between two houses!

ANY SUGGESTIONS??

I didn't think "green" people ate fast food!

Did you find anything yet?

Red face to turtle mom

Am a light pink person - eat pink food! <g>
ALSO - you have to choose your battles in this movement to having a smaller carbon footprint. There are too many fast food places for me to take them on - except to reinforce their better ideas by eating anything that is not deep fried - e.g. grilled chicken, salmon, shrimp plus these in salads, broccoli, green beans etc are being served in fast food national chains.

Yes we found the builder - Imagine Homes - and they have a neighborhood that meets all the "close to" requirements. Have not bought there due to a change in the timing of when we are moving. But - am impressed with the direction that mass market builders are moving in in SA. It is still my first choice for retirement!

I will see your floods and tornados (we have them here) and raise you alligators, in rivers, lakes, ponds, drainage ditches, the surf on the beaches, on golf courses, in shopping center drainage ponds ... last month a local man lost an arm to a gator not far from my home ... the critter literally grabbed him and spun him in the water so hard that the arm dislocated at the shoulder and the bones pulled loose, ripping through the muscle! AARGH. And he lived - got out of the water - stumbled into a picnic (of NURSES-no less). They later retrieved his arm from Mr Gator's belly - but reattachment was impossible (ya think?)
