Allergies Anyone??? What's in the air??? (San Antonio, Anton: outside, desert, about)

For about the past month, everyone in our household has been miserable with sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny noses. My husband has gotten so bad that he's been forced to use a nebulizer to combat the congestion that's affecting his asthma. I've been monitoring the allergen levels on the weather channel but haven't seen anything rated high. Are we the only ones experiencing this? Anyone know what might be high but not showing up?

I just came down with allergies this week. First time in my life and I'm 61. I live in Fort Worth Texas and wondering if I should quit working in the yard. If I can work in my yard what do I do afterwords shower wash my clothes what else any suggestions? I was really miserable in my bedroom and then I got up and decided to dust it and after that seemed to help a lot

I've been to the doctor and confirmed that it is allergies. I have nasal spray and Claritin. That has completely helped me. After working in my yard I'm sneezing. I'm an outside person and cannot imagine living without being able to go outside and do my stuff.

July and August is bad for mold spores and Weed and grass pollen.
My own allergies mostly end late in the spring for the most part. Many here get very ill late in the year
and Jan. and Feb. from Juniper pollen. Very ill.
Oak pollen later in the spring is a bad time for rhinitis also.

Don't forget to change the cabin filter in your Grand Marquis too. That might help.

Allergies to specific pollens are seasonal and thus predictable and easier to ID. Mold is much more variable (both timing and type of mold). After working in the yard & garden I spend an extra minute in the shower letting water rinse off dust/spores/etc from eyes, mouth and nose. If it wasn't hot enough to need a shower afterwards. I lean over the sink and cup some running tap water in my hands to rinse eyes and inside nose and mouth.

I started using a sterile nasal mist/rinse made by Arm & Hammer (non-medicated) to help rinse & drain dust/spores out of the upper nasal passages. One can lasts about a month, costs about $3 when on sale. It's really worth it in my case (also age 61) because you won't know when tap water has a temporary increase in the various microbial impurities until days later, if at all.

If the nose starts running, I let it flow, don't stifle it. 1 day of constant drainage is much preferred to 1 week of constant sinus congestion. Also, I take half a dose of Sominex (aka Benadryl) once or twice a week before bedtime. I still get a congestion headache occasionally but it's not a weeklong thing anymore. Hope that helps.

its like this and probably it has never been a thought in anyone's mind, but-- ok, all this construction going on everywhere and digging up what is old to establish the new-- the materials used a.k.a. old, to include the new and improved, heat absorbing and radiating whatever, in the transport of heat that attaches itself to the air and if no wind it lasts longer and more compact and tighter--- mosquitoes love that by the way makes targets nicer-- and the thought goes on .

Didn't have bad allergies until we moved to San Antonio from Arizona.
Bought a house out near Government Canyon in Helotes, nice trees, views etc..
Surrounded by Mountain Cedar which is horrible. Youngest kid got it really bad, shots, medicines, etc..
Cleared up after we left but he still has effects.

Another problem that causes the same allergy-like symptoms is the dust in the air called African Dust or Saharan Dust....it makes it very hazy outside in San Antonio and South Texas. On days when it's more clear like today, you won't see the haze which means the dust isn't coming in at full force but when it is in full force like it was yesterday, it takes its toll on allergy and asthma sufferers.
