I went to Vegas last year and I fell in love with casino atmosphere while I was there. I wish we had a casino here (but i know that will never happen). Isn't the closest one in Eagle Pass?

Vegas awesome!!! Eagle Pass complete opposite! If SA had a casino I might go broke. I love having a few and playing some craps. Poker/Blackjack not so much b/c I always lose! Roulette is alright, but overall I like craps. I know it would pump money into the local/state economy. It might also cover the budget shortfall that is still around in this state. As of now I blow my money in LA. I would rather blow it in my hometown.

San Antonio made its reputation on gambling. We had 24 hour gambling right on Main Plaza, best little ***** houses this side of New Orleans. We were the city all the cowsboys dropped their pay after a round-up.
101 Club next door to Vaudeville Theatre, White Elephant Saloon, Silver King Saloon (where actress Anna Held won $10,000 on the roulette wheel), Revolving Light Saloon. all of these were on Main Plaza. Many gambling houses and a couple of chicken fights in the district just a few blocks west.

Not bad for the largest city in the largest state when San Antonio's population went from 20,000 to 100,000.

Yea, bring back those days!!

In the 1930's, V. E. "Red" Berry had a casino on Saledad Street and a gambling hall in the basement of his mansion on the east side. He also had a dog track there.

I'm all for it, but don't we all gamble enough just driving in this city? How the hell does one go the wrong way on the hwy?

As I've said before in similar threads, the Alamodome or Retama Park could be made into decent places for a casino type business. At least use them to see how well it would work.....not like they are being used for much else anyway.

I would'nt mind a casino in the downtown area in keeping with San Antonio's history. It would give the tourists one more "thing" to do. Plus, all those seniors that are taking those casino busses to La. could get their gambling fix right here at home. Put it in Hemisphere Plaza along with a dinner and dancing club, that could also offer something like a Vegas review and an intimate concert venue, and a movie theatre. Why not?

NOT. Casinos inevitably attract some undesirable elements.

Undesirable elements? You mean like sulfur, or little old ladies in spandex at the slot machines ?
