Hello,

Just a quick question, I got a speeding ticket from BCS. 53 in a 45 on Marbach rd and it's my first one ever. My question is, I know I can take defensive driving to get it "tossed" so to speak but do I do it before the hearing date or tell them that I wish to take the class at the time of the hearing? Thanks in advance!!!

The judge or JP has to agree to it. Call the number on the ticket.

Only 8 mph over? Were you all alone on the roadway?

The easiest thing to do would be to call the court number on the ticket and ask them. Sometimes they can approve it on the phone or a website.

Happened to me too. Just so you know, you'll still have to pay the full price of the fine, which is seperate from the additional cost of the drivers ed class and the request for your drivers record. I've gotten a speeding ticket from SAPD where I went to court, asked for probation, and got off with 3 months of probation and only paying 80.00 of the full fine.

I had to pay the whole (around) 200.00 to bexar county. (For going 40 in a 30!) Plus take the drivers ed class. (No probation only choice.) Boo to them.

But I make sure to go EXACTLY 30 down Pue now.

Yeah, only 8 over but the guy was waiting for someone to pull over. He was kind of hidden at the entrance to Stonecreek.

I thought the point to taking Def Driving is one to eliminate the ticket from your record as well as bypass the fine?

No, defensive driving is only to get the ticket off your record.

You still have to pay a fine if choosing defensive driving but is a little bit less than paying the full amount and it won't go on your record.

I received a ticket last year and the fine was like $190, sapd caught me doing 55 in a 45 but the officer was in a good mood because he only wrote the ticket going 50 on a 45. I think I paid like somewhere $150 electing defensive driving and taking the online course. There's also paying by deferred but I wouldn't recommended if you haven't had any previous tickets in the last year.

Since it's BCS you can probably pay it sooner than your appearance date.

Godforsaken revenue generators. Boils my blood. 53 in a 45 on Marbach?

Whatever. I don't deal with the revenue generators now: I have an electric car now, where you're REWARDED on the fly for going slow.

Best of luck, OP. I know how you feel. All too well the memory pervades my fragile being....my innocence lost. Not since September 2009 have I felt that way. & hopefully never again.
