Can anyone provide any input on hotels near Freeman Coliseum? I did some googling and such, but didn't see much and I certainly don't know that area. I'm coming down for a pre-rodeo event and would like to stay near the Coliseum if possible. If not, I guess the Riverwalk area would be my next choice. Lots of decent stuff there.

Thanks in advance.

You could try the Comfort Suites Alamo/Riverwalk, which is neither next to the Alamo nor the Riverwalk. It's a straight shot to the Freeman Coliseum from there, a couple of miles or so. It's right off the highway. I live not too far from there and I've known the owner of the hotel for years. You'd be close enough to the Riverwalk that you could walk to it. If you went closer to the Coliseum, you'd find old motels you probably wouldn't want to go to. If I drive by there I'll stick my head in and check it out for you.

There's nothing in the immediate area *I* would stay at. Personally, I'd head downtown or to Loop 410 on the north side. I'd avoid NE and NW side loop 410 properties as well.....it's nothing personal, but the security seems better on the NS loop properties.

This is why I LOVE this forum -- useful info from locals. I'll avoid the coliseum area like the plague and hit Riverwalk. So ... hotel recs there? I want something nice, but not $300 a night nice.

Here's the hotel I was mentioning earlier: CLICK HERE

It's well worth checking out; you can see for yourselves from the pictures. I obviously have no need to stay there, but if I did I'd enjoy the variety of services they offer. I was just over there to visit with the owner. The hotel opened its doors in 2008, so the building is very recent (she had it built). Rates are available through the website, they're WELL below $300. The Riverwalk is within walking distance, as are many other attractions.
