Are you referring to the North East Independent School District (NEISD)? Or the North East area of town? And, if the latter, approximately what boundaries are you referring to?

Thumbs up Wilderness Oal Elementary

Actually I just did some research and found Wilderness Oak Elementary as our top pick. We are going to go check out the school campus next week. Thanks for your help!

Check if they are still capped. Also, boundaries will change next fall due to the construction of 2 new elementary schools.

All the Stone Oak and Encino Park schools are excellent. They are adding 2 more. One on Knight's Cross--Las Lomas Elementary--and another at Huebner/1604--I think it's Vinyard Elementary. Wilderness Oak will be losing the Roger's Ranch and Vinyard kids to the new one one Huebner.

My favorite school anywhere is Stone Oak Elementary. I know they are losing some kids to the Las Lomas school and I'm not sure what will eventually happen to the Sonterra neighborhoods but last I heard the moms said their kids were not being moved. The biggest plus for Stone Oak Elementary to me is the smaller size. Like Hardy Oak it's just one story and has less kids. You can't go wrong academically in this part of town and I've yet to hear of anyone moving because they were not satisfied with the elementary schools.

Despite the nay-sayers I've been extremely happy living in this part of SA-especially when it comes to the benefits it provides my kids. Hope you find somewhere you love!

Good advice. As of last school year, Wilderness Oak was the only ES in NEISD with caps. The overflow schools are probably fine, but it would be a drag to move there specifically for the school and not get into the school.

Definitely can't go wrong with any of the Stone Oak schools. We moved here in July and I love it.

I would call the attendance secretary who is in charge of the numbers. Well, at least they are in Northside at my school. They will give you the exact numbers and if the campus is capped they will direct you to the nearest overflow campus. I would also keep in mind TEA ratings. Personally, I would not want my children in an academically unacceptable school.

I have heard from a teacher who worked at a couple of the Stone Oak elementaries that there is a competitive subculture in some of them, led by hyper-competitive parents from Asian countries. These parents schedule their own academic events on weekends, like spelling bees and math competitions, because they don't think the school is pushing their children hard enough.

My kids are top 10-percenters, but that is a ridiculous extreme of pressure that I would never want them to be up against. Unless that type of pushing appeals to you for your own children, I would be wary of the very top-ranked schools in Stone Oak.
