I remember when the course was built. It still is probably one of the prettiest golf courses around, although I haven't been there in years. I'm not a golfer, but I remember when it opened it was Pecan Valley Country Club, with a pool, clubhouse, etc. It was built by E.J. Burke. If I'm not mistaken he had this wild idea of putting up lights on the first nine holes so people could play at night. I think he actually did put up the lights, but later took them down.

From what I understand this took everybody by suprize. I hate to see it go. They will probably put up more barrack type housing in it's place. As kids I can remember harvesting golf balls by the hundreds out of Salado Creek just downstream from Pecan Valley Golf Course. My kids did as well.
