Oh, that makes me feel better. I was convinced my brother invented the snowboard precursor in So Cal mountains c. 1980 and lost out by never patenting it. He indeed took the wheels off a skateboard and put a rope on it, so it was like a stand up sled. Never seen in those parts before, but I least I know he didn't miss out on making a fortune

I was in high school living with my parents. Their house was at the bottom of a hill (Judivan Dr.).Spent most of the time watching cars trying to go up the hill and slide back down and hit the curb.

I was living in an apartment in north S.A. I woke up my daughter to tell her to look out the window. She and a friend were later outside playing in it. The friend had warm northern clothes, but DD just had the winter clothes people here usually wear. They were building snowmen and sledding with improvised "sleds". I came down with a virus that day, really sick, called in sick for job. Should have gotten someone to make DD come in, but I thought they were probably at the friend's apartment and I was kind of out of it. By the time DD came in she was in bad shape...had to be thawed out in a tub of lukewarm water...that taught her something! Next day, I felt better and wanted to go to the grocery story, but my car wouldn't start. Eventually we got it started with BF's help. We were lucky...parts of the roofs over the parking places had collapsed, but not where our car was. Slippy slidey on the roads, scary! Made it home okay. Had to go into work very early the next morning. That was a scary trip too, but at least there was no traffic to speak of.

Henry Cisneros was the mayor. He shut down all interstate access into and out of city and all access to Loop 410. Kept the traffic to fender benders only.

Does anyone remember the press conference he held after the snow melted?

I was the ripe old age of -4. Parents moved to SA a year or so after the snow so they missed it too unfortunately.

I remember the storm quite well. Being a Texan by birth, it was quite a shocker!

We were living in Alaska but my dad was in SA for work. I happened to break my arm and recall that he was unable to come home because he was snowed in.

Was he the mayor way back in 85? I know he was during the ice storm we had around 94 or 95 and I remember the highways being shut down because it didn't sctually snow and USAA made me come to work on the sheets of ice. Once I got there they decided if you could get a free day off if you stayed home.

I missed the 85 storm becuase we had moved to San Angelo but my husband was here. I think they were probably going everywhere they weren't supposed to in his truck and getting into trouble. I was jealous of the snow even though it snowed a little every year in San Angelo it wasn't as big a deal as that 14 inch snow here!
