Hi everyone,

Just a question. I recently got a ticet for my cars inspection being expired. Doing a little research, it seems that the ticket can be dismissed with proof of recent inspection and a $20 fee as long as the sticker hasn't been expired for more than 60 days...well mine was expired for way longer than 60 days, but I am wondering if the courts know that. The old sticker is gone and there is no mention of the old stickers expiration date on the ticket or the new inspection receipt. How would they know? This was in Comal county btw

and I don't mean to sound dumb. I realize that the cop probably made a notation of the expiration date somewhere. I'm just wanting to know if that is indeed the case

Inspections are numbered, assigned to individual vehicles and logged. I'm not sure how accessible this info is, but I'd bet they know when it expired. You got away with it more than you should have. Just pay the ticket. Life bites sometimes, but you had it coming.

It is what it is - they WILL know how long ago it expired, but if you go in and have gotten it inspected, ask for "mercy". Depending on just HOW far out of date it was, the courts generally are more concerned with you having fixed the issue than with hitting you with any huge fine. However...KNOW that if you do it again, they will very likely hammer you hard - so keep an eye on it in the future!

Take your lumps and don't do it again. First rule of being in a hole is to quit digging. Don't put yourself in the position of lying in court. It's documented somewhere and you'll get hammered on it if you lie about it.

I'm viewing this as a similar situation as if you didn't put enough money in a parking meter, or you stayed longer than you thought you would.

You played the odds, you got away with it for awhile but you got caught.
Get your car inspected, it doesn't take that long. Pay your ticket and move on with life.
Hopefully you learned something.

Appreciate the replies. Good point about lying in court kev. That's why I was asking if they had record of the date here instead of just calling the court and asking. If they did have record, I didn't want to get caught lying, saying that it was within 60 days. If they didn't have record, I didn't want to admit to knowing it was outside 60 days and having that noted somewhere. After asking the question here and reading the first couple replies, I just called the court, said I wasn't sure if it was over 60 days, and the lady took the ticket # and told me the correct month of my old sticker. Bummer, they have record of the date. Looks like I'll go to the judge and try to get some mercy.

I wasn't trying to make the point that inspection tickets are morally wrong, or that I didn't deserve the ticket. I got an inspection immediately after I got the ticket, it was just something I kept putting off. I have no problem paying the full fine if the judge doesn't give me a dismissal, I'm just exploring my options and trying to get out the cheapest way.

and the only reason I am even trying to get some mercy is because it's my first time getting this ticket. If it happens again I will simply be mailing them the payment.

When you get to traffic court be honest, apologetic, sincere and pray for the best...it's about all you can do about it now.

Most judges tend to be lenient if you present yourself in a respectful manner. Chances are good they will dismiss the charges but there's no guarantee and if they don't, they were "earned" anyway...

Cheers! M2

I had gotten a ticket once years ago for an expired inspection sticker but it was less than 30 days. I just got the new inspection sticker, took the reciept to the court house and it was dismissed without ever seeing the judge.

The policeman didn't make a note of how many days it was expired either.

This was in another county however. Comal may be different.

They are basically "fix it" tickets.
