I saw a very bright blue-white streak of light at about 8pm Wed night. Much like a very bright shooting star. Brightest I have ever seen. Anyone else see it?

1 friend in Austin saw it, 1 friend in San Antonio saw it & my mom just got home from work & she had seen it from 281/Redland sitting in traffic. It was bluish-greenish for all 3 of them.

I thought it was a meteor with an unconventional element makeup, hence the bluish-greenish color rather than the usual sorta red? I also considered a failing Russian satellite, but those are usually in red fireballs.

I guess we'll have to wait for some press releases. I do feel really crappy that I totally missed out on it just because I was in the bathtub soaking after a workout. Wish I had seen it. Oh, well. Next time!

Twitter says it was a meteor, visible over Texas and Oklahoma.

Twitter? A most reliable source. Who was it on Twitter? Was it the US Astronomy Survey's (or whatever government agency is in charge of it) Twitter account?

Sorry for being snarky, I'm just a bit sad that I missed out on it

Probably a meteor but I didn't see it.

Although the KSAT12 Facebook feed is entertaining. The lack of science education has me dumbfounded. How can some of those people tie their own shoes?

A gem: "Why is everyone saying they saw it? Can a meteor be seen in multiple states?"

The green ball of light seen over San Antonio has been confirmed by the FAA as a meteor, also seen over OKC, North Texas and Abilene area.

well, to be fair, these things usually fizzle out very quickly. Sometimes they just aren't bright enough to be seen elsewhere. I think that was kind of a legit question.

Hmmm....I thought a lot of meteors lasted a long while and could be seen in multiple cities & across states. This happens much more often than you'd think.
