Since we are talkin' BBQ, we noticed a place on Fredricksburg Rd near Callaghan "Old Smokehouse Real Pit BBQ" something like that. I don't know how we missed it. We will give that a try and report back on it as well. The Dickey's BBQ is talkin back to me so I wont be cravin BBQ for a day or two.

The Old Smoke house on Fred Rd was the north side satellite of the Old Bob smokehouse on the eastside. This was the best BBQ in SA for years . The Spurs were regular customers and also visiting teams. Many celebs ate there also. Here are my bbq rating below

Bill Miller -C
BBQ Station-A
Grady's-C
Rudy's- B+
Harmon's- A
Tom Ribs-B
County Line-B+
Tony Roma's-B
Old SmokeHouse-Fred Rd-A

Where is BBQ Station located? And is Harmon's the one in Cibolo?

Have you tried Barbed Wire or Blue Cactus? Both of those are pretty good, IMO.

I remember Tony Roma's back in Portland Oregon. They eventually went under there. I did like some of the menu but the atmosphere and the staff were terrible. There is a another BBQ place in Portland if you ever visit. Its called Busters Texas BBQ. Good ribs, best of any "Texas style" I've ever had. Busters was pretty far away for us to get to so it was a special occasion we had to plan . I became a regular customer of a small place in the north end of Portland called Big Kahuna's. A man named Gary owns it. 1/2 Hawaiian 1/2 Mexican descent 100% good BBQ. This guy wins BBQ competitions all over and I was lucky to have him nearby. Best brisket in Portland. He introduced us to "chili-yaki" which is a mix of terriyaki and sweet chili sauce on brisket served over rice bento style. Fairly common in bento places in Portland, but never on brisket. Gotta say the mix of east and west with BBQ and bento is fantastic. We buy brisket to go and do it at home. Makes me wonder if bento would catch on here?

Default Dickeys BBQ

Yes this is pretty good stuff. Though I was born & raied in SA, I currently live o/s Dallas and they are all over the place just like Bill Miller is down there. But the food beats Bill Miller hands down! The food is real BBQ. I was hoping they would open down there. Now I'm moving back for sure!

We drove by Dickey's, but still went to Rudy's. Sorry, old habits can't be broken. I only wish Sonny's were closer, we would probably split our time between the two.

Cheers! M2

Smile You'll Like It

Dickey's is a good chain, and I think you will like the brisket and the ribs. They've got really good sausage that's a lot like what you'll get in the Hill Country. Also, they have pretty good sandwiches. Good potato salad, too. I believe San Antonio will embrace this place.

Dickeys are all over Dallas. If you are craving real bbq it will disappoint, if you want fast food bbq then you may like the place. Personally I think it sucks then again I'm picky when it comes to bbq. I don't think native San Antonians will embrace the place there are just too many good spots to get good bbq.
