I think the city is trying to clean it up a bit, building a new target behind the valero. They are tearing down lots of the old run down motels, so we will see how it turns out.

I thought Austin Highway was getting better with the new businesses opening such as the Target and the Wal Mart Super Center. Now, I'm not so sure. There was a homicide at the Skyline Motel earlier this year. The owner of Rittiman Hardware was also murdered in his mobile home, the trailer park is adjacent to Austin Highway. It really is sad to see what has happened to this area.

The revitalization is not complete. Not much has been done east of Eisenhauer or west of the new apartment complex by Walmart. I often shop at the Walmart in the middle of the night without a gun and I never feel like I'm in danger. However, I never go to the Valero down the street because Valero has low quality gas. I know someone who lives across from the shopping center and she says it's okay.

When I was having problems with one of my former cars, two mechanics and a coworker told me not to buy Valero gas. I also don't buy HEB because a mechanic said it ruined my grandmother's SUV. From then on, I only bought top tier gas at Shell, Chevron, Exxon, etc.

There was one murder in the Austin Hwy area last year. There were also two murders in Stone Oak.

There is new apt complex in works called 1111 Austin Hwy. They also just tore down another fly by night hotel and are replacing it with a Randolph Brooks FCU at the corner of Rittiman and Austin Hwy.

Any idea when the new bank is supposed to be opening? I was looking into going to a new bank and although I really preferred Randolph Brooks there was not a one near my home and with one opening there... that could work out.

Thanks!

I think slowly Austin Highway is getting better, still a few more hotels that probably need to be closed. I think the Credit Union is a good addidtion in the area.
