I got about ten of these bugs right against my apartment door every day. I have to run inside so they don't get in, but sometimes at least one makes it through. I thought they were male male mosquitoes.

I left the UK last year and was hoping to have seen the last of these buggers.. I hate them so much. I've killed about 20 so far in the last 2 weeks. Boooooo!

We have fireflies here at Del Webb in the greenbelt areas...and roadrunners, possums and, most unfortunately, ferral hogs. Deer abound, as does LOTS of native "I have not seen in forever" types to include the Texas Horn toads that "sun" on our back deck.....I LOVE LIVING HERE!!!!

Not really. While crane flies are also known as mosquito hawks, they do not prey on mosquitoes; but some adults have been known to consume mosquito larvae.
However, dragon flies do hunt mosquitoes, another reason why they are so cool!

Great to learn more about them and better to know they are harmless.

I would love to find fireflies coming back in my direction too but for many years all I ever see are ugly click beetles. I remember catching one thinking it was a firefly but being disappointed.

If they eat mosquito larva, I will not be so quick to pull out the fly swatter.
