Can anyone tell me the places to absolutely visit in Texas, if living here for a short time? Especially driving/weekend trips.

If you drive to Fredericksburg or enchanted rock for a visit, come back along a country road, such as Highway 290 to Ranch Route 1623 (to 281). Route 1623 is a beautiful country road with stunning views of the oak-covered hills. It's best to do it on the way back to SA with the sun behind you so that the colors are more vibrant.

We take that drive a lot (above one) and absolutely love it!!! I would try to take as many back roads as possible....provide it is not raining hard, there are low water crossings that could be dangerous.

Also, the Wildlife Ranch off 1863 is great!!! We have a season pass and love to go feed the animals.

The usual haunts are good too....Alamo, Riverwalk, La Villita, etc.

The McNay is a great small musuem.

Fredricksburg is a great little town, Wimberley is very quaint and Boerne is also fun to walk around...eat at the Limestone Grill.....it has good food.

Welcome and have fun:-)

That is a pretty drive. We are actually getting a group together and making that drive next weekend.
Fredricksburg has their trade days on the third weekend of every month, if you are into that kind of thing:
